Support and Services for Military Families

Welcome to Mariner High School! We are proud to support our military families who work and live in the community. We are dedicated to providing support, resources, and programs to enhance our students’ educational experiences and support families.

Whether you currently attend Mariner High School and are seeking resources, or you are new to the area and are considering Mariner High School as your school, we are excited to help support you and your students!

We are very grateful for our military families. We appreciate the service and sacrifice you make, and we are aware of the unique demands that both can create. This is especially true as it relates to changing duty stations and transitioning from one school to the next.

To help support these, please take advantage of the resources we have dedicated to you and your students.

SOME OF THE COMMON ISSUES THAT WE CAN HELP WITH ARE:

  • Stress management and coping skills
  • Anger management / conflict resolution
  • Deployment and reintegration issues
  • Feelings associated with separation and divorce
  • Grief and loss reactions
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Communication skills
  • Leadership skills

Major Bryan Williams is the Leadership Academy Department Head at Mariner High School and serves as the Military Point of Contact for our families. Major Williams served 25 years in the United States Army and will be happy to help your family get access to resources and answer any questions to help welcome your family to Mariner High School. Student Led Transition Program

Our School Counselors meet with students and families to review transcripts and build the student schedule. JROTC student leaders sponsor new students.

A staff and faculty presentation is presented during 'Teacher back to school week' each year to ensure all faculty are aware of our military transition services. JROTC trains several Senior Cadets each year to serve as ‘Purple Star sponsors’.  Sponsors are selected based on their own military family backgrounds to assist with relating to peer military students concerns and needs.

We encourage new military family students to choose our JROTC Leadership Program. JROTC helps students develop leadership skills, build confidence and positive connections, and increase self-esteem and self-worth. Students participate in team building activities to help form connections. Students in this class have the opportunity to participate in the school drill team if they choose. Students in JROTC class have the opportunity to participate in several after school activities: Drill and Color Guard teams, Raiders, Marksmanship, Drone Racing, Robotics, CyberPatriot, Honor Guard and Leadership and Academic Bowl team.
